Once FORTH.TOS has started, it stays in memory until you exit from Forth. The first time you type EDIT , EMACS.TOS is read in to memory, and it stays there until you exit from Forth. WHATIS.IND and WHATIS.DOC are accessed every time you use the WHATIS command, so you have to keep them on- line to use that command. The other files are only accessed if you explicitly load them with FLOAD . Disk #15:-CP/M80 CPM80. This is the complete emulator for the CP/M-80 operating system. It will run programs written for CP/M such as Wordstar, MBASIC, DBASE II, MULIPLAN and a vast collection of public domain software. These programs can be downloaded from many BBS's with the ST and ported to the CP/M disk with the TOSCPM utility that is included with the emulator. There is documentation included BUT a working knowledge of CP/M is necessary to understand how to run programs under CP/M. It is a large pro- gram and needs all the RAM it can get. On a 520 ST system, remove all desk accessories before running. Read the DOC file on the disk for specific information regarding the demo. Disk #19: GRAPHICS DEMOS/DESKTOP MUSIC This disk contains two excellent animated graphics demos; the famous "FUJIBOINK!" demo from Xanth and a bouncing ball demo titled "Marbles". Run these demos in low resolution. An added bonus is a folder titled Songs. This folder contains a collection of short music demos which can be played right from the desktop...just double-click on any song title. Enjoy! DISK 20: BEGINNERS DISK For many new Atari ST owners, this disk is the answer to a prayer. We hope that it will prove useful to all. We have endeavored to provide on one disk a variety of public domain programs that will show off the power of the ST, provide useful information on a number of subjects of interest to the beginner and, of course, publicize the benefits of the local Atari users groups. Please direct your attention to the folder entitled ST_TIPS. Double-clicking on this folder will reveal the contents - in particular a number of text files on such fascinating topics as the desktop, ramdisks, etc. To read these files simply double- click on the icon (or filename) and when the dialog box appears on the screen, click on SHOW. This will print the text document to the screen where you may read it. Alternately, you may click on PRINT and have it printed out on your printer (assuming you have one). Any file with the ".DOC" extender is a text file and may be viewed in this manner. Read the file "ST_USERS.DOC" for more information. DISK 63: RAM DISKS This disk contains all the public domain RAM disks that I could find as of APRIL 11,1988. I tried to avoid any duplication. There are probably some I missed, but this ought to be an adequate selection for most purposes. I have included several automatic RAM disk loaders that will load a RAM disk with files or contents of a floppy during boot. There is an article on RAM disks also on this disk which discusses RAM disk characteristics and provides a short comparison table of the "better" ones. This file is named CNRAMDSK.DOC. There is a file named GERAMDSK.DOC that is essentially an annotated index of RAM disks that I got off GEnie. All .DOC files are ASCII files, so they can be read directly from the desktop by double-clicking on them and then selecting SHOW from the dialog box. DISK 64: MicroEMACS VERSION 3.7i This disk contains the MicroEMACS screen editor and a number of associated files. To run the editor, you need to have the EMACS.RC file on your disk with EMACS37I.TTP. The EMACS.RC file originally on the disk is set for a color monitor and is the same as EMACSCOL.RC. If you have a black and white monitor, you should use EMACSBAW.RC. Simply copy this to your desktop and rename it to EMACS.RC. There is also a version which gives you a menu- based system (EMACSMENU.RC). The keys are not all bound in the menu version to reflect the ST. (For example, in the color version, the arrow keys move you in the appropriate directions.) In the DOCS folder you will find a tutorial (EMACS.TUT) and two additional reference manuals (EMACS1.DOC and EMACS2.DOC). If you print these to your printer, they should come out OK.
